For starters, it features a 2.4 liter Tigershark I4 engine, which can go a whopping 31 MPG with a driving range of 495 miles The engine produces 187 PS (184 hp) Its main competition, the Subaru Forester, only clocks in at 170 hp.
If you are really into power, the Jeep Liberty boasts an optional 3.2 Pentastar V6 with 271 hp, which is big muscle for a compact crossover. Meanwhile, the Subaru Forester offers a 250-hp 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder in XT models.
While the Liberty’s strength is in its power, it does go up to 22 mpg city/31 mpg on the highway. The Subaru Forester offers up to 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. On top of that, it also features The Active Drive II 4X4 system with off-road suspension. All Jeep Libertys have a ZF-developed 9 speed automatic transmission. Not only is the Liberty the first Chrysler SUV vehicle to feature a nine-speed transmission, it is the first sport utility vehicle to feature a nine-speed transmission.
If you are thinking of taking your jet ski to the lake, Jeep Liberty features a 3.517:1 final drive ratio and can pull a whopping 4,500 lb.
All Liberty models use Selec-Terrain in all of the four wheel drive models. Over all, the Jeep Liberty bests its competitors in terms of features and benefits.
The Future of the Liberty
You will be glad to know that early this year, the Overland was anointed by Jeep to replace the Liberty as its new flagship model. The Overland will also boast the powerful standard 184-hp 2.4L Tigershark 4-Cylinder engine or the optional 271-hp 3.2L Pentastar V6 engine.
As this happens they will add more of the unique features you love in addition to the previously top-of-the-line Limited trim level, which includes eye candy like Color-Keyed Front and Rear Fascias and Rear Wheel Wells, plus 18-inch polished alloy rims.

Front wheel drive models will be priced at $34,695.00 MSRP, while 4WD will be priced at $38,395.00.
