For the 2019 model year, Dodge’s Ram truck line has introduced new design elements and technologies to remain competitive with other leading truck brands. The three trucks in this year’s lineup are the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500, each of which combines function and form to create a great vehicle that will allow you to tackle heavy jobs in style.
Whether you’re looking for a more normal full-size pickup in the 1500 or need the power and towing capacity that only the 3500 can offer, the 2019 Dodge Ram lineup is sure to have a truck that will suit your needs. To help in making your decision, here are the key features and specifications you should be aware of for the 2019 model year.
2019 Ram 1500
Starting at $31,795, the 1500 is the entry-level truck in Ram’s 2019 lineup.
The 2019 Ram 1500 can be equipped with two different engine options. The first, a 3.6-liter V6, puts out 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The other is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, which produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. This HEMI engine can also be equipped with Dodge’s eTorque feature for an improved mixture of power and fuel efficiency.
Fuel mileage ratings for the engine options are as follows:
- 6-liter V6: 20 mpg city, 25 highway
- 7-liter HEMI V8: 15 mpg city, 22 highway
- 7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque: 17 mpg city, 23 highway
Like many modern pickup trucks, the 2019 Ram 1500 offers a wide variety of standard and available safety features to keep you secure on the road. Some of the most important safety features you’ll find on the new 1500 include lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, parallel and perpendicular parking assistance, 360-degree camera monitoring, and six surrounding airbags. In addition to these features, the truck’s blind spot monitoring is set up to automatically detect and take into account the length of a trailer that is being towed. With this automatic sensing, your truck can give you accurate blind spot monitoring, regardless of the size and configuration of your trailer.
Beyond its safety features, the 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 is also equipped with a slew of infotainment features that will keep you and your passengers connected and entertained on long drives. Controlled from a massive 12-inch touchscreen, the truck’s infotainment system includes a 19-speaker premium sound system, USB and auxiliary connectivity ports, active noise cancellation technology, and an eye-catching digital cluster display. This system is also compatible with SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and Uconnect 4C NAV.
Ranging from its reasonably high-powered 5.7-liter HEMI engine option to its several available safety features, there are many advantages to owning the 2019 Ram. One disadvantage of this truck is it’s somewhat limited towing and payload capabilities compared to its larger cousins. The 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry a 2,300-pound payload, which may not be enough for buyers who use their trucks heavily for work or extremely heavy towing. Nevertheless, the 1500 performs reliably well in class comparisons, having been rated at number one in the full-size pickup truck category by U.S. News and World Report.
2019 Ram 2500
A step up from the Ram 1500 is the 2500, a heavy-duty pickup truck that offers more substantial power and towing capabilities. Prices for the 2500 and 3500 have not yet been released, but the trucks should begin appearing in showrooms within a few months. The two engine options available on the 2500 are a 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that puts out 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 Ram 2500 is capable of towing up to 19,780 pounds and can accept a 4,050-pound payload thanks to its 98.5 percent high-strength steel framing. Fuel efficiency ratings for this model are not yet available.
Like the 1500, the 2019 2500 offers adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system. In addition to those features, the 2500 has adaptive LED headlights that will automatically adjust themselves for optimal nighttime visibility and a complete tire pressure monitoring system that extends to the trailer being towed behind the truck. The latter feature is excellent for preventing trailer flats, a common problem that can occur on long towing runs. Rounding out the safety features is active braking for help slowing the truck and trailer down when an emergency arises.
The Ram 2500 also shares several of its interior features with the 1500. The same 12-inch touchscreen controller will give you control over the truck’s infotainment system, which offers the same connectivity features as the 1500. On the 2500, though, you’ll also find available Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a 17-speaker premium sound system for optimal sound quality. Like the 1500, active noise cancellation is employed to keep the cabin quiet on the road. As an added interior feature, the 2500 can be equipped with all-leather seating for an added sense of luxury.
The main advantages of the 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 are its incredible towing and payload capacity. However, this truck is not just another workhorse — it’s a high-end luxury vehicle. With its excellent safety and infotainment features, the 2500 will be just as comfortable a ride as almost any luxury car or SUV. While there aren’t any real disadvantages to this truck, it might have been nice to see some additional interior upgrades with this model, such as a rear-seat DVD player.
2019 Ram 3500
At the very top of the lineup is the 2019 Dodge Ram 3500, a massively powerful pickup truck for tackling the heaviest jobs. This truck comes with the same two engine options as the 2500, but also includes an exclusive diesel-powered version of the 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 400 horsepower and an impressive 1,000 pound-feet of torque. Equipped with this engine, the 3500 can tow up to 35,100 pounds. The maximum payload capacity of the 3500 is 7,680 pounds. As with the 2500, MSRP and fuel efficiency rating has not yet been released for the 3500.
The 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 shares the 360-degree camera coverage, front collision warnings, and active braking features that keep its smaller counterpart safe. The 3500 also features a six-sensor rear parking assistance system that is virtually unheard of on a truck of its size. This parking assistance helps to make the 3500 a very practical vehicle, even if you live in a crowded area with tight parking conditions.
Inside, the 3500 is virtually identical to the 2500. The same infotainment and connectivity features are present, all still powered by a large and functional 12-inch touchscreen controller. As with the 2500, the 3500 can be upgraded to all-leather seating.
Where the 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 truly stands out is its massive towing capacity. Able to haul more than 35,000 pounds, the 3500 is great for people with the largest trailers or boats. While some additional upgrades from the 1500 and 2500 models would have been welcome, this truck offers supreme capabilities in a package that is both functional and luxurious.
